Yesterday was disappointing, 15th on the grid was pretty shabby and that was the first time this season he didn't get through to Q3. But Nico really made up for it today. His start was fantastic, he got up to 9th before the first lap was over; and he drove fantastically to come home in 4th.
It's clear he's really enjoying the season and loving his car right now. He was interviewed on the BBC post-race show and he was asked which of the upcoming tracks he thought would suit the car best, and he said all of them. He said that whenever he comes to a new track, whatever it is, the car feels great now, which hasn't happened for the past couple of years. And I imagine that if he has that confidence in the car, then he's able to push that little bit more and it's really paying off for him!
Also, Nico's now sitting on 20.5 points. In 2008 he got 17 points, in 2007 he got 20 points and in 2006 it was 4 points. At only halfway through this season, he's already got more points than his final points haul for each of the past three years - that's amazing, and shows what a good season he's having.
Also interesting is that 5th, 6th and 7th in the championship right now are Felipe (22), Jarno (21.5) and Nico (20.5). He's really close to those guys, I'd say 5th place is anyone's right now. And these three are in a little bubble all of their own: the top four are a way off (Rubens is in fourth with 44 points) but next behind them all is Timo and Fernando with 13 points each. So realistically 5th is probably the best Nico can expect this season, but he's looking really good. This makes me happy :)
